The Kebbi State Government has strongly refuted a widely circulating allegation that substandard materials were used in the construction of the N7.23 billion Argungu Township Old Bypass Road project, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

A report published by a media (not PUNCH) on March 18, 2025, titled “Anti-graft agencies, EFCC, ICPC asked to probe N7.23bn Kebbi road project overuse of substandard materials,” alleged irregularities in the project, citing concerns over construction materials.

However, in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, the government dismissed the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the reputation of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration.

“It is evident that certain faceless individuals, under the guise of activism, are behind this unfounded claim,” the statement read.

The government clarified that “the 6.4-kilometer dualisation project, awarded to Amirco Engineering, adhered strictly to approved engineering specifications. It countered claims that blocks were used instead of reinforced concrete for culvert construction, insisting that a proper investigation would have revealed the contract details rather than presenting a misleading narrative.”

The statement further outlined the project components, which included, “full road rehabilitation with scarification, excavation, and upgrading to a dual-carriageway.
