A charity organisation, ‘Wunti Al-khair Foundation,’ has earmarked over 5,000 25kg bags of rice to be distributed to less privileged individuals in the Muslim community in Bauchi State.

The Programme Manager of the organisation, Mustapha Ango, said that the beneficiaries cut across the 20 local government areas of the state. He added that selection was done carefully from vulnerable residents, persons with disabilities, and other groups of needy.

The items, according to Ango, are being shared in phases after its commencement with beneficiaries from Katagum, Zaki, Gamawa and Giade Local Government Areas.

He explained that the initiative is designed to bring much-needed relief to the less fortunate, especially during this fasting month of Ramadan.

Another official of the foundation, Isiyaka Wunti, said that apart from Ramadan food distribution, the Wunti Al-khair Foundation has been providing free medical outreach programmes and education scholarships for less privileged members of society.

One of the beneficiaries of the items, Aishatu Jibrin Bala, a resident of Gamawa, said that her name submitted to benefit from the food items without knowing any of the providers. “I never expected it. This would go a long way to help us during this Ramadan fasting. Things have been so difficult for the family, but we thank God and we thank the people that gave this. May God bless them.”

A 72-year-old man, Abubakar Shehu, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Foundation. “Even if I have money to buy this rice, there are many domestic responsibilities that will prevent me from doing that. But I just got it free, I never expected it. I’m grateful to the foundation,” he said.
