Ramadan: DGSS connects Christian leaders, Muslim Ummah for Iftar

Abuja – In a bid to promote religious harmony and peace, the Director General of the State Security Service (DGSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, hosted leaders of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) and Muslim Ummah in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for a special Iftar to mark the beginning of Ramadan.
A statement released on Tuesday by the FCT Chairman of the CCN, Reverend Sabonyaro Adamson, confirmed that the interfaith gathering took place on Saturday and was attended by prominent religious figures, including:
Reverend Canon Smart S. Simon, CCN FCT Assistant Council Secretary
Reverend Fr. Peter Babangida Audu
Reverend Nicodemus Izuchukwu
Fr. Michael Banjo
Fr. Boniface Idoko
Snr. Special Apostle Beneni Iyaye of the FCT Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat
A Tradition of Unity and Peace
The event, described by the DGSS as “a tradition,” was aimed at fostering harmony between Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths in Nigeria.
“This event demonstrates my commitment to fostering unity, religious tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, especially during important spiritual periods like Ramadan and the Lenten season,” Ajayi stated.
He assured attendees of his continued efforts to galvanize various religious groups to strengthen peace and unity in the country.
In his remarks, Rev’d Adams praised the DGSS’s kindness and urged other leaders to follow his example.
“Mr. Ajayi has demonstrated true love for others, which is the core of the Christian faith. Though Nigeria’s diverse faiths, cultures, and ethnic groups present challenges, proper harnessing can yield positive results and make Nigeria an example for other nations.”
The Muslim Ummah, led by Prof. Khalid Aliyu Abubakar, National Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), also commended the DGSS for hosting their first Iftar meal for 2025.
Prof. Abubakar acknowledged Ajayi’s bridge-building efforts, describing them as pragmatic leadership in fostering unity.
“Despite being the son of Christian clerics, Mr. Ajayi has made history with this initiative. May Allah grant him wisdom in navigating the complexities of nation-building.”
The DGSS announced that similar interfaith engagements will continue, including a special event for the Christian community ahead of the Lenten season.
The event also extended the spirit of Ramadan to less privileged individuals across the FCT, reinforcing the values of compassion, unity, and shared humanity.
