Arsenal and Liverpool have been in contact over a possible summer move to sign 27-year-old Nigerian international, Ademola Lookman from Serie A club Atalanta, reports thehardtackle.com.

According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland, Lookman might return to the Premier League in the summer transfer window. Arsenal and Liverpool are among the prospective suitors vying for the signature of the Atalanta attacker after his recent clash of words with Gian Piero Gasperini.

Lookman has established himself as one of the best attackers in Serie A since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig, in August 2022.

The London-born attacker had struggled for stability until he moved to Bergamo, with spells with Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City not working as well as he would have liked.

The 27-year-old was instrumental in delivering the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League title to Atalanta. Lookman has continued his excellent form this term, contributing to 24 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 17 times and providing seven assists.

However, Lookman’s long-term future at Atalanta has come under scrutiny after a recent clash of words with Gian Piero Gasperini in the wake of La Dea’s ouster from the UEFA Champions League. A return to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Arsenal submitting an enquiry and the Nigerian international’s entourage contacting Liverpool over a possible move.

Arsenal’s interest in Lookman is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window, with Mikel Arteta’s team over-dependent on Bukayo Saka in the final third. So, Lookman has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

As for Liverpool, the uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future have left the Merseyside club in a spot of bother. So, Lookman is an option worth considering for Liverpool, with the Nigerian international’s entourage contacting the Premier League outfit over a possible summer move.

Sacha Tavolieri has suggested that the Reds are more advanced than Arsenal ahead of a possible summer move for the London-born attacker. So, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Atalanta forward joins Liverpool if he leaves the Serie A club in the summer transfer window.
