Customs cancels declared imports under suspended 4% FOB charge
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the cancellation of all import declarations made during the brief implementation of the now-suspended four per cent free-on-board (FOB) charge, directing affected stakeholders to recapture their entries to facilitate their clearance.
The cancellation follows the NCS’s recent decision to suspend the controversial FOB charge, which had sparked concerns.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS emphasised that the decision was necessary to ensure clarity, maintain consistency in customs operations, and prevent disruptions in clearance processes.
“All importers, customs agents and stakeholders affected by the initial implementation of the four per cent FOB charge are required to recapture their declarations through the designated customs processing platforms.
“Customs Commands nationwide have been instructed to provide the necessary assistance and clarifications to facilitate a smooth process,” the statement read.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, reiterated the NCS’ commitment to implementing government fiscal policies in alignment with the NCS Act 2023.
