Renowned Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters has shared the emotional challenges he faced growing up with famous parents.

The son of Afro-Juju legend Shina Peters and Nollywood star Clarion Chukwurah, Clarence revealed in a recent interview that his parents’ fame caused him deep trauma, making him uncomfortable in the spotlight.

This discomfort influenced his decision to stay behind the scenes in his career. He admitted that growing up in the limelight contributed to his struggles with impostor syndrome, leading him to initially avoid attaching his name to his work despite achieving global success.

“I grew up with famous parents, and some of my trauma stemmed from them being in the limelight—I didn’t like that,” he confessed.

Clarence recalled how a close friend tricked him into putting his name on his work, pushing him to embrace recognition. He also credited his mother, Clarion Chukwurah, for believing in his talent even before he recognized it himself.

“I didn’t think I had the personality for it. I wasn’t even sure about my talent. The only person who was certain—even before I started exhibiting it—was my mother. She firmly believed that it’s in the genes,” he shared.
