In an intensified campaign against insurgency, Nigerian Army troops have struck a significant blow against Boko Haram terrorists, neutralizing 10 fighters and recovering a cache of automatic weapons during a daring raid on a known stronghold.

The operation also led to the capture of a key terror collaborator known for extorting ransom payments on behalf of terrorist and bandit groups.

On 17 February 2025, troops launched a high-stakes raid deep within Iza forest, located in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, 10 Boko Haram fighters were eliminated, while others fled in chaos. The operation’s mop-up phase yielded the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and two loaded magazines.

In a separate ambush staged in Tunfa village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops acted on credible intelligence to neutralize a bandit and capture a high-value suspect linked to the Sani Black terrorist faction.

The suspect, who facilitates ransom payments, provided intelligence that led to a raid on the bandits’ hideout in Tunga village, a hub for selling stolen cattle. Several suspects were apprehended, and all bandit infrastructure in the area was destroyed.

Additionally, troops acting on human intelligence arrested a suspected terrorist at Illela Market in Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
