The Federal Road Safety Corps on Tuesday marked its 37th anniversary.

In his speech, Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reflected on the FRSC’s growth over the years, noting the expansion from 16 to 37 Sector Commands and from five to 12 Zonal Commands.

Mohammed stressed that these changes have played a role in improving road safety across the country.

“I am honoured to welcome you today to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
“Over the years, the Corps has undergone significant transformations, expanding from 16 Sector Commands to 37, and from five Zonal Commands to 12. This growth is a testament to FRSC’s commitment to its mission.

“Similarly, in the past 37 years, the FRSC has made significant strides in reducing road crashes and promoting road safety awareness. We have worked tirelessly to educate the public on the importance of road safety, and our efforts have yielded positive results.

“Our statistics show that road crashes have decreased significantly over the years, and we attribute this success to our sustained efforts in enforcing traffic laws, conducting public enlightenment campaigns, and collaborating with stakeholders,” he noted.

He added, “However, the Corps is already planning for further developments, aiming to enhance its reach and operational effectiveness in the coming years.

“However, we are not complacent, and we recognise that there is still much work to be done.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to address the challenges facing our roads, including reckless driving, overloading, and poor road condition,”

The corps marshal noted that one of the most notable innovations introduced by the FRSC was the use of body cameras for patrol officers and a mobile app designed to improve emergency response times.

These technological advancements, part of a broader effort to digitise operations, are expected to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and provide more effective services to the public.

Mohammed said, “As we celebrate this milestone, I wish to highlight management’s efforts in leveraging technology to digitalise patrol operations through the use of body cameras and the introduction of the FRSC App which have revolutionized our patrol operations, making it easier for us to respond to emergencies and provide services to the public.”
