Eighteen suspected kidnappers and armed robbers have been arrested by the Edo State Security Corps.

The suspects were apprehended on Friday along the Benin-Auchi axis of Edo State.

According to a statement by the ESSC Commandant, Friday Ibadin, 38 locally made guns, pellets, and several charms were recovered from the suspects.

Ibadin stated that the arrests were made during a bush-combing operation along the Benin-Auchi Road near Eguedion Camp, close to a military checkpoint.

He revealed that 17 of the 18 arrested suspects were non-indigenes, while one hails from Agbede community in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

Ibadin reassured Edo residents of the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety and providing an enabling environment, particularly as the farming season approaches.

He said, “While on patrol along Benin-Auchi Road near Eguedion Camp, close to a military checkpoint, two individuals were spotted carrying guns. On sighting my men, they fled. They were pursued to a camp where 18 persons were arrested.

“Thirty-eight fully loaded locally made guns and charms were also recovered. Our men will continue to comb the bushes and sensitise locals to rid our forests of criminals and ensure Edo State remains safe and secure for all.”

The suspects were later handed over to the police at Agbede Police Station.
