Three armed robbers have been confirmed dead during a gun duel with the police at Filin-Dabo village in the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, who confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday night.

According to her, the operation began with a distress call at 11:50 PM regarding a violent robbery in the village.

She stated that the Divisional Police Officer of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division responded swiftly, alerting the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and coordinating with operatives from the 102 Battalion, Guards Brigade, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilante groups.

Adeh, in the statement, further disclosed, “Upon spotting the joint security team, the six-member gang attempted to flee into nearby bushes, launching an ambush on the operatives.

“However, the security personnel responded with superior firepower, engaging the criminals in a fierce exchange. Despite their attempts to escape, the suspects were subdued.”

She however noted that the suspects who sustained various degrees of bullet wounds were rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital where three of them were confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty, while the other three sustained injuries and were receiving medical attention.

The police spokesperson also revealed that the team recovered dangerous weapons including one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, nineteen live rounds of 7.62 ammunition, two locally made pistols and two knives.

“The police also recovered one taser, one mobile phone, assorted charms and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp,” the statement added.

PUNCH Metro reported that the FCT police killed two armed robbers during a gun duel and arrested four in the Jahi area of the nation’s capital on November 7, 2024.

Also, no fewer than five car snatchers were arrested and 13 stolen vehicles were recovered during the operations conducted by the scorpion squad of the FCT command.

Parading the suspects in Abuja, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, said the armed robbers opened fire on October 21 upon sighting police officers who had received a distress call about a robbery incident in the Jahi area of the FCT.

According to him, during the gun battle, the police killed two of the armed robbers, recovered two of their vehicles, and arrested two suspects identified as Haruna Abdullahi, 32, from Ikara LGA, Kaduna State, and Yerima Usman, 28, from Itoro LGA, Bauchi State.
