The Osun State Ministry of Federal Affairs, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has hosted a gathering of over 32 ambassadors and diplomats from various countries to discuss the agricultural potential of the state and how it can be the destination of foreign investors.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Tola Faseru, during the meeting, announced plans by the state government to host an agricultural investment conference in April, in line with the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration’s goal of tapping into the opportunities in the sector.

Faseru announced this in Abuja, noting that the Osun State Government had successfully secured cooperation and partnerships with ambassadors from 32 countries, following a series of closed-door sessions.

He emphasised the importance of foreign investors from the private sector tapping into Osun State’s abundant potential in the agricultural sector, declaring the readiness of the Adeleke administration to provide the enabling environment for investors to thrive.

He added, “We’re committed to creating an enabling environment for investors to thrive.”

He also outlined the various efforts of the government to remove impediments that have scared away investors from investing their money in the state.

Providing more insight into the Osun State Government’s investment drive, a principal officer in the Nigerian Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, assured potential investors that the state was open for investment and would support their success.

He added, “Osun is an agricultural hub of southwestern Nigeria, with a high ease-of-doing business rating, positive investment climate, and policies promoting agro-industrialisation.

“We’ve tackled our infrastructure deficits and have functioning free trade zones. Osun is open for business.”

Oyewumi conveyed the assurances of Governor Adeleke, of his willingness to receive them in Osun State, stressing that “we acknowledge that we cannot achieve our goals alone, which is why we’re inviting participants from around the world to join us at the Agriculture Investment Conference – Osun 2025.”

Responding, the Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohsen Anlit; the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales, and other ambassadors unanimously agreed to visit Osun State and invite their private sector investors and governments to participate in the conference.

As the Osun State Government prepares to host the Agricultural Investment Conference, Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi, the Director of Economy, Trade and Investment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, concluded with the Osun State Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Mrs Adenike Adeleke, that official invitations would be sent to the members of the diplomatic missions in Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Osun State Ministry of Federal Affairs, setting the stage for a fruitful collaboration between the state and international investors.
