The Loogun of Ede in Osun State, Chief Jimoh Kabiru, who was recently suspended by the Timi of Ede and his council of chiefs, has denied allegations of land-grabbing and disrespecting the traditional institution.

Chief Kabiru, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, said the matter is currently under investigation by the Timi-in-Council and other respected elders of the Ede community.

Earlier, The PUNCH reported that the palace of the Timi of Ede on Monday announced Kabiru’s indefinite suspension, accusing him of showing disregard for the authority of the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.

However, Kabiru described the allegations as false and blamed what he termed “mischief-makers” for trying to create conflict between him and the monarch.

“I want to state categorically that there was never a time when I, the Loogun of Loogun Ede, or the Loogun Gbebi family authorised any individual or group to attack or insult the revered institution of the Timi of Ede,” Kabiru stated.

He clarified that a recent public statement from his family was only aimed at addressing misinformation regarding land ownership in Loogun Ede and not a slight against the monarch.

It is important to inform Ede indigenes both at home and abroad that there is no dispute or misunderstanding between myself and our revered royal father, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal,” he added.

Kabiru emphasised his deep respect for the traditional institution and described his relationship with the Timi as that of a loyal son to a father.

He also revealed that the Timi-in-Council, along with other prominent community leaders, were working toward a peaceful resolution of the land dispute.

Warning against efforts to sow discord, Kabiru called on all parties to prioritise peace for the benefit of the community.

“We must always pursue peace because it is only in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and bitterness that progress and development can be guaranteed. That is what I believe in and stand for,” he stated.
