In commemoration of World Liver Day, the National Orientation Agency has called on Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles to safeguard their liver health.

In a public advisory shared on its official social media platforms, the agency emphasised the importance of maintaining liver health through informed lifestyle choices.

It warned against harmful habits such as excessive alcohol consumption, a sedentary lifestyle, and the misuse of medications without proper medical guidance.

The NOA advised Nigerians to stay active, consume diets rich in fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water, and undergo regular medical check-ups to monitor liver function.

“The liver filters toxins, supports digestion, and plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health,” the agency stated, underscoring the liver’s vital role in digestion, detoxification, and general wellbeing.

The agency also highlighted its ongoing commitment to public health education, citing various health-focused initiatives over the past two years.

Through its Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers, the NOA has been actively engaging with communities across the country—reaching out to traders, transport workers, farmers, women, youth groups, civil society organizations, and faith-based institutions.

“These engagements form part of broader public health advocacy efforts, including integrated campaigns for the prevention of infectious diseases such as Lassa fever, cholera, and cerebrospinal meningitis. These initiatives have been implemented in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control , helping to disseminate accurate information and critical health resources nationwide,” the statement added.
