Following the pre-qualification of Nigeria’s bid to host the fifth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2027), the IATF delegation was in Lagos to inspect infrastructure, facilities and the country’s readiness to host millions of visitors from all over the world.

At a dinner hosted by the Lagos State Government, the IATF delegation engaged the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment leadership, led by its minister, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, key Lagos cabinet members as well as heads of relevant agencies.

The fair, which brings together continental and global players to explore business and investment opportunities in Africa, is taking place in September with Algeria hosting it.
The minister noted that the event would serve as a marketplace where buyers and sellers meet to explore business opportunities as well as a platform for business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) meetings.

“Nigeria is participating this year, and we hope to share trade, investment and market information, identify solutions to address the challenges affecting intra-African trade as well as share information about trade finance and trade facilitation interventions provided by financial institutions,” she said.

She added that attendees would be drawn from different sectors of the industry, including trade, manufacturing and the services sectors.

Oduwole said: “I am grateful for this impressive beginning, which underscores Nigeria’s readiness and commitment to excellence. During the due diligence process with the IATF delegation, we visited Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to assess critical infrastructure and logistics in preparation for a seamless experience for delegates and stakeholders. The delegation also conducted a series of hotel assessments, ensuring world-class hospitality standards for the event.”

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the IATF’s importance as a significant platform for enhancing trade and investment across the continent, which he said cannot be overemphasised.
