The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to give equal opportunities to and treat all health professionals with justice, fairness, career progression and professional autonomy that will motivate every profession to contribute its best in the health sector.

Speaking in Owerri, the Imo State capital during the World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day, the AMLSN National President, Dr. Uche Odionyemma told the Federal Government to increase the budgetary allocation to the health sector and adequately fund medical laboratory services to make tests affordable, reliable and accessible to the masses.

Odionyemma however, told President Bila Ahmed Tinubu to remember the National Health Act 2014 and ensure its implementation to the benefit of all.

Insisting that full implementation of the approved scheme of service for medical laboratory personnel in all tiers of government was of paramount importance, Odionyemma further called on the Federal Government to ensure adequate funding of basic health care provision.

He said, “This will expand access to health care and ensure improved universal, reliable and accessibility to the masses.

He spoke against quackery in the profession, the proliferation of health training institutions and inadequate regulation of in-vitro diagnostics to public health.

Odionyemma also called for the urgent constitution and inauguration of the AMLSN Governing Board.

He also called for the liberalization of the headship and restructuring of the Federal Ministry of Health.
