The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, has charged the 335 new constables in the state to make discipline and professionalism their watchword in the discharge of their duties.

This was contained in a statement issued in the early hours of Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, William Aya.

Dantawaye officially addressed the 335 newly passing out police constables at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja on Monday.

According to Aya, the event, which was attended by members of the command’s management team and other senior police officers, marked the constables’ formal induction into the command’s workforce.

He stated, “During his address, CP Dantawaye emphasised discipline, professionalism, and integrity as core values that every police officer must uphold. He encouraged the constables to maintain a high level of personal and professional conduct, urging them to present themselves with dignity and respect in all engagements.”

The CP further urged the constables to package themselves in a way that commands respect, starting with the fear of God.

He noted that a disciplined officer cannot engage in corruption or take bribes, which would only lead to consequences.
He added that their actions define the kind of police officer they become, stressing the importance of discipline within the force while warning that insubordination and misconduct would not be tolerated under his leadership.

He particularly highlighted the role of lawful directives in maintaining order, reminding the constables to respect their superiors and adhere strictly to the chain of command.

He said, “Discipline is not negotiable in Kogi State Command. Obey lawful orders, learn from your superiors, and do not allow yourselves to be influenced by bad elements within the force because your career success depends on your commitment to integrity and service.”

He also addressed the importance of continuous development through training and capacity building for the constables to advance their careers in the force.

He added that the ongoing training by the command would provide them with opportunities to be equipped with the necessary skills for better service delivery.

The CP welcomed the constables to the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, assuring them that while the job demands sacrifice, hard work, and dedication, it also provides opportunities for growth and service to the nation.
